The world’s most popular baby names of 2013


The most popular baby names of 2013 were announced today, and there are some familiar faces in the top spot.

For the third year in a row, Sophia is the most popular name for girls, while Jackson maintains his position as the most popular name for boys.

The list, compiled by the baby-name website BabyCenter, is based on the names of more than 400,000 babies born in 2013 who were registered with the site.

Here are the top 10 names for girls and boys in 2013:

There are some notable changes in this year’s list compared to 2012. For girls, Mia jumped from number eight to number five, while Lily moved up from number 10 to number eight.

On the boys’ side, Liam moved up from number six to number four, while Noah and Jack swapped places, with Noah moving up to number five and Jack falling to number nine.

One trend that continues to gain momentum is the use of surnames as first names. Among the boys, Grayson, Carson, and Bennett all debut in the top 100, while Harper joins the ranks of girls’ names at number 10.

Some of the names that fell out of the top 100 this year include Aidan, Jayden, Jordan, and Kaylee for girls, and Aidan, Jayden, Connor, and Dylan for boys.

  1. I think it’s interesting that the most popular names are all very traditional. It seems like parents are getting more creative with baby names in recent years, but the most popular names are still the classics. I also think it’s neat that surnames are becoming more popular as first names. It’s a trend that I hope continues!
