The Ugly Truth About Being a Social Media Influencer

There’s no sugarcoating it: being a social media influencer is hard work. It’s a full-time job, and then some. You’re constantly on the go, always on your phone or computer, and always “on” – which can be tough to maintain day in and day out.

But the ugly truth is that it’s not all glamorous. Here are some of the not-so-pretty realities of being a social media influencer:

1. You’re always working.

There’s no such thing as a 9-5 when you’re a social media influencer. You’re always working, whether you’re posting on your own channels, responding to comments and messages, or working with brands on sponsored content.

2. You’re always “on.”

Since you’re always working, that means you’re also always “on.” There’s no downtime when you’re a social media influencer. Even when you’re not actively working, you’re still thinking about your social media presence and what you can do to improve it.

3. You have to be careful what you post.

As an influencer, everything you post is put under a microscope. You have to be careful about what you say and how you say it, as anything you post can be taken out of context or used against you.

4. You’re always on the go.

Social media influencers are always on the go, whether they’re traveling to different events or just going from one meeting to the next. It can be tough to keep up with the constant travel, but it’s all part of the job.

5. You never really know what’s going to happen next.

The social media landscape is always changing, which means influencers have to change with it. What works today might not work tomorrow, so you always have to be on the lookout for new opportunities and ways to stay relevant.

The ugly truth is that being a social media influencer is a lot of work. But if you’re up for the challenge, it can be a rewarding career.
