The U.S. military is now using Xbox One controllers to fly drones, it has been revealed.
The controllers are being used by the military in order to save money and increase efficiency, as they are much cheaper than the traditional joystick controllers that are typically used to fly drones.
The news was revealed by Defense One, who obtained a document detailing the use of the controllers.
The document, titled “Creation of Standardized Flight Control Unit (FCU) utilizing Xbox One Controller,” was created by the U.S. Army’s Aviation and Missile Research Development and Engineering Center (AMRDEC).
It details how the controllers are being used by the military to fly drones, and how they are more cost-effective than traditional joystick controllers.
The document states that the controllers are being used for “several different types of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs),” and that they are “operationally suitable and effective.”
The controllers are also said to be more comfortable for pilots, as they are ” ergonomically designed ” and “reduce pilot fatigue.”
The U.S. military has been using drones for a number of years now, and they have become an increasingly important part of their operations.
The use of Xbox One controllers to fly drones is just the latest example of how the military is using gaming technology to increase efficiency and save money.
