It was a cold, clear day in New York City when 23-year-old office worker Elvita Adams decided to end her life. She climbed to the 86th floor observation deck of the Empire State Building, went to the edge, and jumped.
She fell 30 stories, hitting a ledge on the 56th floor. Then, incredibly, she bounced off the ledge and continued falling.
Adams kept on falling until she finally landed on a set of elevator cables on the 20th floor. When the elevator operator found her, she was still alive but badly injured.
Adams was taken to the hospital, where she remained in a coma for weeks. Miraculously, she woke up and eventually made a full recovery.
Adams’ story is truly incredible, and serves as a reminder that no matter how desperate a situation may seem, there is always hope.
