You wake up, check your phone, head to your computer at work, take a break to scroll through social media, and then maybe watch some TV before bed. After all, we know that too much screen time can lead to physical problems like headaches and neck pain. And we also know that staring at screens all day can make it hard to concentrate and can lead to eye strain.

But what about the impact of all that screen time on our mental health? Is too much screen time bad for our mental health?

So what does all of this evidence mean? Does it mean that you should stop using your screens entirely?

Probably not. For one thing, it’s important to remember that the evidence is still relatively new. We need more research to know for sure what the effects of screen time are on our mental health.

For another thing, it’s important to remember that not all screen time is the same. Just as there are different types of physical activity, there are different types of screen time. Some types of screen time, like playing video games or using social media, can be beneficial. Other types of screen time, like watching TV or browsing the internet, can be more harmful.

So if you’re concerned about the impact of screen time on your mental health, the best thing you can do is to be mindful of the types of screen time you’re using and to limit the amount of time you’re spending on harmful activities.
