I Taught My Dog How to Use the Toilet

It took some patience and a lot of positive reinforcement, but I taught my dog how to use the toilet. It’s actually not as difficult as it may sound. Here’s how I did it.

The first step is to get your dog comfortable with the toilet. Place the toilet in an easily accessible area and let your dog sniff around and explore it. Reward your dog with treats if he shows an interest in the toilet.

Next, you’ll need to start training your dog to go to the toilet on cue. I did this by placing a treat on the rim of the toilet and saying the cue word “toilet” as my dog ate the treat. I repeated this process until my dog began to associate the cue word with going to the toilet.

Now that your dog knows the cue word, it’s time to start training him to actually go to the toilet on cue. I did this by placing my dog in a “stay” position and then putting his front paws up on the toilet seat. I then said the cue word and immediately gave him a treat.

It may take a few tries, but eventually your dog will learn to go to the toilet on cue. Once he’s mastered this, you can start phasing out the treats.

And that’s it! With a little patience and positive reinforcement, you can teach your dog to use the toilet just like a human.
