It all started one day when I was cleaning my cat’s litter box and thinking to myself, there has got to be a better way. I did some research and discovered that it is possible to train cats to use the toilet. So, I set out to do just that.
The process took some time and patience, but eventually, my cat got the hang of it and now he does his business in peace. Here’s how I did it:
First, I removed the litter box from my cat’s area. I wanted him to associate the toilet with going to the bathroom, not the litter box.
Next, I placed a small step stool next to the toilet. I wanted him to be able to easily reach the seat.
I then placed his food and water bowls on the stool. I wanted him to be comfortable spending time in this area.
I also placed a few toys on the stool. I wanted him to have something to do while he was in the bathroom.
I then placed a piece of tape on the rim of the toilet seat. I wanted him to know that this was his target.
I also put a small amount of cat litter in the toilet. I wanted him to have something to aim for.
The next step was to start training my cat. I did this by placing him on the stool and showing him the piece of tape. I then encouraged him to use the toilet. I did this by making a “go potty” sound.
Whenever he would use the toilet, I would give him a treat. I wanted him to associate going to the bathroom with something positive.
After a few weeks of training, my cat was using the toilet like a pro! I was so proud of him.
Now, my cat has the freedom to use the toilet whenever he needs to go. He no longer has to be confined to a litter box. Plus, I don’t have to worry about cleaning up his messes. It’s a win-win for both of us!
