I Taught My Cat to High Five

I have a cat named Max. Max is a black and white domestic short-haired cat who is about two years old. I’ve had Max since he was a kitten, and we’ve been through a lot together. Max is a very sweet and affectionate cat, but he can also be a little bit lazy.

One of Max’s favorite things to do is to sit on my lap and purr. He also loves to play with his toys, and he’s particularly fond of chasing balls of yarn around the house.

About a year ago, I started teaching Max how to high five. It was something that I’d always wanted to do with a cat, and I thought it would be a fun trick to teach him.

The first step was to get Max used to the idea of my hand coming towards his face. I did this by slowly moving my hand towards his face and letting him sniff it. Once he was comfortable with this, I started to lightly tap his paw with my hand.

At first, Max would just look at me confused. But after a few days of consistent tapping, he finally started to raise his paw to meet my hand.

Now, Max is a pro at high fiving! He knows to raise his paw whenever I hold my hand up to him. It’s become one of our favorite things to do together, and it always makes me smile.
