I moved to the city and no one talks to each other anymore. It’s like we’re all living in our own little bubbles, afraid to reach out and connect with the people around us. We go to work, we go to the grocery store, we go to the gym, but we don’t ever really talk to each other.
I remember when I first moved here, I would strike up conversations with people all the time. I would ask them about their day, their jobs, their families. I was always interested in hearing their stories and getting to know them as people. But it seems like that’s not the norm anymore.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that everyone in the city is unfriendly. I’ve met some amazing people here. But it does seem like we’re all so busy with our own lives that we don’t take the time to connect with the people around us.
I think this is a real shame. Because when you live in a big city, it can be easy to feel alone and disconnected. But if we took the time to talk to each other, we would realize that we’re all going through the same thing. We all have our own struggles and our own triumphs.
So, the next time you’re at the grocery store, or the gym, or on the subway, take a minute to strike up a conversation with the person next to you. You never know, you might just make a new friend.
