How to prevent getting sick while travelling

When travelling, there are a number of things you can do to prevent yourself from getting sick. First and foremost, make sure you wash your hands regularly and often. Use soap and water, and scrub for at least 20 seconds. If you can’t find soap and water, hand sanitizer will do. Avoid touching your face, especially your mouth, nose, and eyes.

Secondly, try to avoid close contact with people who are sick. If you must be around them, wear a mask.

Third, stay away from sick people as much as possible. If you are sick, stay home. Don’t travel.

Fourth, clean and disinfect surfaces that are often touched, like doorknobs, light switches, countertops, and handles. Use a household cleaning spray or wipes.

Fifth, get vaccinated. There are vaccines for a number of diseases that are common in travellers, like influenza, meningitis, and hepatitis A and B.

Lastly, practice safe food and water precautions. Avoid food and drinks from street vendors. Stick to bottled water, and avoid ice cubes. Only eat food that has been cooked thoroughly. Avoid salads and raw fruits and vegetables.
