Chimpanzee Escapes Enclosure at Zoo, Causes Panic Among Visitors

A chimpanzee caused a panic at a zoo in China when it escaped from its enclosure. The chimp was captured after about an hour on the loose.

The drama unfolded at the Yancheng Safari Park in Jiangsu province on Saturday afternoon. Visitors were evacuated from the area as zoo staff tried to contain the animal.

The chimp, named Zhu Bajie, was eventually caught and returned to its enclosure. No one was injured in the incident.

The escape occurred after the chimp managed to break through the metal bars of its cage, according to the park’s director, Zhang Hemin.

It is not the first time that a chimp has escaped from the zoo. In 2016, another chimp named Xiao Liwu escaped from its enclosure and had to be tranquilized with a dart.

The latest escape comes just a week after a tiger killed a man at a Chinese zoo. The victim, identified as Ma Weigan, had climbed into the tiger enclosure at the Youngor Zoo in the city of Ningbo in an attempt to save his daughter, who had fallen in.
