1. “I didn’t do it.”
This is an immediate admission of guilt and will likely result in you being arrested on the spot. If you didn’t do it, it’s best to keep your mouth shut until you have a lawyer present.

2. “I don’t know why you’re pulling me over, officer.”
This is a blatant disrespect of the officer’s authority and will not endear you to them in any way. It’s best to just cooperate and answer any questions they have.

3. “I’m not carrying any weapons.”
If the officer asks if you have any weapons on you, they’re probably already aware that you do. Lying to a police officer is never a good idea, no matter what the situation is.

4. “I was just speeding a little bit.”
Again, this is an admission of guilt. It’s best to just own up to it and accept the consequences.

5. “I had a few drinks, but I’m not drunk.”
This is another lie that will likely get you into more trouble than you were originally in. If you’ve been drinking, it’s best to just tell the officer that you’ll cooperate with a breathalyzer test.

6. “My parents are going to kill me if I get a ticket.”
This is not the officer’s concern. They’re just doing their job, so threatening them isn’t going to help your case.

7. “I don’t have my license on me.”
This is a common excuse, but it’s not going to get you out of a ticket. If you know you should have your license on you, it’s best to just be honest and tell the officer that you forgot it.

8. “I didn’t see the stop sign.”
This is another lie that’s not going to do you any favors. If you ran a stop sign, just admit it and accept the consequences.

9. “I’m not answering any of your questions until I speak to a lawyer.”
This is your right, but it’s not going to make the officer want to help you in any way. They’re likely to just arrest you and let you sort it out with a lawyer later.

10. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
This is the worst thing you could say to an officer. If they’re asking you questions, they already have a pretty good idea of what’s going on. Lying to them is only going to make things worse.
